Abdullah, We are an institution that sees a fair amount of blunt chest trauma. We have for the past few years used HFO for rescue from refractory profound hypoxemia. We are recently beginning to use it earlier in a patients course. The following attachments refer to the use of HFO in many patients even though none are specifically traumatic pulmonary contusions. These are references that I usually refer to when recommending HFO. I would be happy to share anecdotal experience if you would like. Keith Keith D.
