"doctors say they need protection to apologize"

It's also sad because the no-fault quest for perfection in the airline industry is continually held up to us as worthy of emulation. I wonder how long that would have lasted if every employee who caused a near-miss tragedy apologized to everyone on the plane! I imagine they would have needed statutory protection.

Sentinel events, root cause analyses -- how are we to do a meaningful quest for quality when we're threatened with litigation every time someone catches a problem?

Incredible to realize that we need a "law" to apologize for mistakes made by one human trying sincerely to look after another!! SAD indeed.

	Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this article that was posted in the Boston Globe a few days ago. It has to do with Massachusetts passing a law, that would make it ok for a physician to say sorry for a medical mistake.

	http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/10/31/doctors_say_they_need_protection_to_apologize/

My question is, should this law encompass all of the medical community I.E., pharmacists, nurses, paramedics? Also, dose anyone know of any states that allow practitioners to say I'm sorry to patients for medical mistakes?

	Thanks,
