Back in the '80s there was a study that showed there was anti-thrombotic activity with squeezing of any of the extremities...it was done using some older techniques of identifying fibrinolysis (I think).  Anyway, subsequently, (since the late 90s) there have been papers that seem to refute that older evidence.  I still have the papers somewhere.  Interesting stuff.  I think it's been debunked.  I could dig them out if you're interested.
