Please don't strategically confuse my rhetorical enthusiasm with Ken's well-earned affinity for proclamation. 

The efficacy of intraosseous infusion is a fact to be unconditionally dismissed only by the irresponsible; but the federally funded sitcom we call Homeland Security is a variously misguided and utterly misappropriated mess, inviting more than a little strident criticism.  And before someone starts whining that this is a strictly political or even partisan topic, unworthy of the Trauma-List, let me ask what else are we to do with Wayne's original, earnest (if naïve) question?

In my opinion, ensuring a robust healthcare infrastructure (especially regarding prehospital and trauma systems) should be an urgent priority within any reasonable plan for the protection of our society.  Instead, the administration has systematically de-funded or privatized all aspects of public healthcare, allowing the expression of its narrow ideology to eclipse real and urgent concerns.  Trauma Centers collapse, and rescue crews hold bake sales to pay for CPR mannequins.

ZERO dollars for trauma and EMS, while we prosecute a HALF-TRILLION-dollar war on fiction.  If you're not outraged, you're clearly not paying attention.

You're joking, yes?  How can you not have noticed that the Office of
Homeland Security has nothing whatever to do with essential health services
-- and precious little to do with common sense?

Spending tax money on healthcare infrastructure is tantamount to a domestic
entitlement program; a slippery slope leading inexorably to SOCIALIZED
MEDICINE!  It would cost MILLIONS, simply to provide excellent medical
services to AVERAGE AMERICANS!  

Don't you know we're fighting a WAR on TERROR?
