This is NOT an advertisement; it is a progress note; it is to inform you of the status of the Las Vegas Course and to let each of you know of certain evolutionary trends. 1. The Las Vegas Trauma Course is now in its 40th year and this year changed its name from Trauma Critical Care to Trauma, Critical Care, & Acute Care Surgery 2. The course was CLOSED to enrollment 6 weeks ago due to all spaces in the convention hall being full. Exhibit space was filled before the end of 2006. With ONE mail out of the advertising flyer, AND word of mouth from previous attendees, this course has been sold out every year for the past 10. IF ANYONE IS PLANNING TO COME TO VEGAS AND REGISTER ON SITE, PLEASE DO NOT COME AS THERE IS NO MORE ROOM TO PUT ANYONE ELSE. SORRY. 3. This year the percentage of attendants who are physicians has increased even more than in previous years. Now well over 80% are physicians and the majority of the other attendees are nurses in trauma and critical care roles. 4. The hunger for presentations in "acute care surgery" subjects has been overwhelming. Even hospital administrators have contacted us expressing interest in sending surgeons to this course, because, "IN OUR COMMUNITY THE NEED FOR A SURGEON THAT CAN TAKE CARE OF THE BIG EMERGENCY SURGERY ACROSS ALL GAMITS, IS OUR GREATEST NEED. WE WILL BE WILLING TO PAY ALMOST ANYTHING TO GET A SURGEON WHO IS NOT SINGLE ORGAN LIMITED, ONE WHO IS NOT AFRAID OF THE TOUGHEST CASE, AND WHO IS LIKE THE GENERAL SURGEON OF 2 DECADES AGO." 5. I have reviewed the syllabus material and the powerpoint presentations of the 52 presentations. ALL are original fresh presentations with current EBM references (except where the lectures are strictly technical approaches). The syllabus material is like a textbook, but fresh and cutting edge. The powerpoint presentations contain several of the best medical subject presentations I have ever seen, EVER. EVERY talk is ORIGIONAL, specifically constructed for this conference. Over the past 40 years, many of the practice changing concepts, techniques, and practices were launched at this conference, and this year is no exception. 6. The ethics, pediatric surgery, surgical subspecialty topics are intertwined throughout the presentations and case presentations. 7. Every attendee, every speaker, every powerpoint presentation, every case presentation, every comment on the evaluation forms have been tabulated, collated, cross referenced and analyzed to meet the needs of evolving practice of surgery, trauma care, critical care, and supporting nursing. 8. I will be unable to give you a day by day report of the presentations and exciting stuff, as I will be busy, but if no one else shares the conference with you, I will try to give a summary in a few weeks after the course is over. 9. Remember there is NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION for this course. For those of you who are attending, I look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace in a week. I strongly recommend the two newest shows, LOVE at the Mirage and Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian. k ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
