For years, we have pointed out the difference between trauma and other diseases that have spokesmen. Whether it is prostate cancer, breast cancer or AIDS there are high profile people pushing for funding. In trauma we got nada. We have discussed many reasons for this. Most victims want to forget about the trauma and get on with their lives, etc. Now, out of the blue from least likely of places we have a very strong advocate and nobody says nothing. Bob Woodruff. The ABC Evening New anchor who was severely injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq last year is talking about his trauma. He had a bad TBI. He, without prompting from the trauma community that I know of, has made a fabulous documentary called To Iraq and Back. It is better than we could have prayed for. He talks about his own personal story but also includes the problems that many of our vets are having with TBI. I have no idea if he has been approached by the AAST or EAST or ACS or anyone from the trauma community. With the Walter Reed story blowing up, we need to strike while the iron is warm. We need to ask our congressmen to come and tour our facilities. We then need to ask for significant funding for trauma. Now, is the time. I have been watching the political scene for the last 15 years. There has never been a better time. Every politician loves the trauma system right now. I have Bob Woodruff's documentary (in 6 parts on my blog) www.whereistheoutrage.net/wordpress My 2 cents. Errington C.
