BUT two hours is too long for a potential appendicitis to be out in the waiting room I generally agree..especially in a female who could easily have something much more dramatic. My point was that if she was not immediately taken to surgery (and I have seen even good surgeons wait hours to lap scope a low risk patient), then the statement that this was a sentinel event is less supportable. If the ED delay was a sentinel event, but the patient was not operated on for several hours after the ED doc made the diagnosis, then the surgeon and OR team should be reported for delay of care as well. ck Charles S.
