Universal Free Health Care (.......nanny and laundry)

I been with a computer blackout due to the IP. Well, anyone can goggle (look
below) and will find more than a couple hits. If any one feels offended
sorry I did not make any movie, nor I'm accusing any one for any significant
substandard care (meaning "let to die") or death. I do wish that policy
makers in any country will take the ED problems more seriously.
Finally there is the other side of the coin. I feel that in very, very few
countries a movie like sicko can be done with no editing by the local
goverment
To all a good night sleep and best regards.
Manuel Sotelo

I just wanted to reply to Dr Soleto. As my partner and I were up most of
the night caring for a morbidly obese diabetic in a rollover MVC with
multiple orthopedic injuries, a pancreatic injury and 30% third degree
burns who has no payor source I am frankly offended by your comment that
people are "left to die" in the ED. It is not to put too fine a point on
it — bullshit; ignorant, biased, self-gratifying bullshit. Quite a bit
like Michael Moore.

And while I'm in my post-back-up call and now on call rant (for those
residents on the list "call" is when you stay in or near the hospital
ALL NIGHT to take care of patients after 5PM, I know, hard to believe
really) Bret — while I like most of your posts I've got to say that
generally speaking using diminuitives like "Faux News", "Rethuglicans",
and "Dhimmocrats" drops the perceived IQ of the post by at least 50
points. /rant off

'Insufficient evidence' State's attorney's office drops Vance death probe
State's attorney's office drops Vance death probe

February 27, 2007
By ART PETERSON apeterson at scn1.com
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office will not pursue criminal charges
against Vista East Medical Center or any staff member for the heart attack
death of Beatrice Vance.

"After a careful review, it is the determination of this office that there
is insufficient evidence to support the filing of criminal charges against
any person or institution," Matthew Chancey, chief of the criminal division,
said Monday.

Vance, 49, of Waukegan died of cardiac arrest early last July 29 in the
Vista East emergency department. Her 28-year-old daughter Monique, who was
with her mother, has said she was left to die in the waiting room, after
moaning in pain for two hours.

A coroner's jury determined the death was a homicide. Jury members
pinpointed Vance's arrival at the hospital at 10:15 p.m., and that she was
unconscious when a nurse called her name for treatment at 12:25 a.m.

A deputy coroner said the heart attack was caused by a blocked artery, and
contributing factors were delayed and inadequate treatment.

State's Attorney Michael Waller said then that was the first time in his
30-year career that an emergency room heart attack death was ruled a
homicide.

Illinois law has no charge of negligent homicide, he said, and reckless
homicide is applied only for vehicular accidents. Typically, these types of
death cases are dealt with in civil lawsuits, he added.

After the coroner's inquest, Chancey headed an investigation to determine
whether criminal charges were supported by the evidence. During ensuing
months, he interviewed many persons.

"Much of the information we got through the grand jury, and that is secret,
so we can't disclose it," Chancey said.

Major hurdles for criminal charges, he said, were "being able to show
recklessness is a problem." "For a corporation, you have to show that the
officers knew," he added.

Monique Vance had no comment on the state's attorney's announcement that no
charges would be filed.
