Could you send me the picture to place next to the unopened one on the Virtual Museum website in the near future? jkscadden at gmail.com Thanks Jules -----Original Message----- From: trauma at emergencyunit.com To: 'Trauma & Critical Care mailing list' <trauma-list at trauma.org> Sent: Mon, 9 Jul 2007 4:09 pm Subject: RE: Code in a Can These weren't unusual in the late 70s and early 80s. They were intended for resuscitation carts. They held a plastic sheet with pockets that could be unrolled to show all the contents. Each pocket was labelled and held a box with an IMS flip-top syringe. You opened it, and took out the glass syringe and plastic barrel each protected by a bright yellow cap. You flipped these off and screwed the two halves together to create a functioning syringe. I append a photo taken on scene at a road crash in around 1985 where the sheet is shown unrolled. The labels and drug boxes can be clearly seen. If you look closely, you can see an assembled upright syringe on the left of the photo. It was used in Iowa when Pope John Paul II visited in 1979. There is a picture of this "Code in a Can" now available on the National EMS Museum website. Please take a look. We would love to know if anyone else has seen anything like this anywhere. http://www.nemsmf.org/ Thanks to Tony Collins of Clive Fire Department in Clive, IA for sharing this unique EMS artifact with us. We look forward to any and all comments, questions or information you have!
