That might be the guideline, but what evidence is it based on?

Our Medical Guidelines require a waiting period of
72-96 hours after chest tube removal before a patient
can be transported by air. In addition, a CXR should
be obtained within 24 hours of departure to document
full lung expansion. We recommend another CXR at the
receiving facility.
