Dear Nurse Khalsa, Broken, maybe. Best around? My very biased opinion says yes. In spite of the fact that I still have cared for patients that have died in my ED. And in my OR. And even on the patient care floors of my hospital. As I see it, they didn't come here 'cause they were the most healthy people in our society. There is one thing that has NEVER happened in my hospital - patients have NEVER been denied care. Nuff said. Ron PS - I have to ask this, and I do not do so out of malice, but out of curiosity......if your are so very happy with the Canadian medical system, why do you obtain your medical care in the US? >>> "Rebecca Tucker" <rjtucker at peoplepc.com> 7/2/2007 1:02 PM >>> Dear Nurse Khalsa, My experience in Kalispell, Montana doesn't match your optimistic outlook on Canadian Healthcare. I cared for hundreds of Canadians who expressed their great dissatisfaction with the national healthcare and were desperately seeking care across our borders in the U.S. They paid cash, too! As a nurse educator, I can also say that I have had close contact with many, many Canadian nurses who literally have come in droves for what they personally stated: 1. Better working conditions, 2. Professional respect, and 3. Better pay. I will agree with you, however, that "the system here is very broken." So what she does not have a hoveround. However, she now lives in a wonderful bright and modern nursing home that is mostly paid by Canada Pension. Yes I am (gasp) Canadian and have lived in the U.S. since 1983. Every system has its unique set of problems and none is perfect however I find it appalling that so many in this country do not have access to quality health care. This section of the population is swelling yearly. This is unconscionable and unacceptable to me. Is it acceptable to any of you? I have not seen Sicko and I don't need to. Whenever I go home as I often do I am sorry to say the system here is very broken. No one is denied health care there, no one is dumped to another hospital or allowed to die in an ER.
