There was a an audio digest a few months back about "what to take" on an extended trip-- sailing, I think. The basics are first aid gear and protective clothing and equipment/gear. I will try to locate it for you on this, my 1st day off in a stretch. When I took a motrocycle crosscountry a few years ago, I read the list in a novel *Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance* by Pirsig. Personally, I never travel/camp without dental floss and duct tape. With those two items, almost anything can be accomplished. Ask for details if you are interested!
