See below. By way of amplification, this summary (borrowed from the ACS
website):

Trauma Reauthorization Bill Introduced

The Trauma Care Systems Planning and Development Act, H.R. 727, was
introduced in the House of Representatives on January 29, by Reps. Gene
Green (D-TX) and Mike Burgess, MD (R-TX). At press time, the Senate was
set to follow suit, with Sens. Jack Reed (D-RI) and Pat Roberts (R-KS)
introducing the companion bill. H.R. 727 would reauthorize the Health
Resource and Service Administration's Trauma-EMS program through fiscal
year (FY) 2012 with authorization levels of $12 million in FY 2008, $10
million in 2009, and $8 million in 2010-2012. The bill also creates a
new competitive grant program for states that have already begun the
process of establishing a trauma system using national standards and
protocols. Log on to the College's Legislative Action Center at
http://www.capitolconnect.com/acspa/ to send a letter to your
legislators asking them to cosponsor these bills. For more information,
contact Aroberts at facs.org.

To Capitol Hill's credit, this is far more money than has been devoted
to the program since its inception in 1990 (averaging less than $2.25
million per year) and more still than the current administration has
ever included in its budget proposals (averaging $0).

At its highest annual appropriation ($12 million in FY 2008), the
taxpayer cost of this bill equals less than two hours of the average
expense of the Iraq war to date. Comparing directly to other federal
safety programs, we may recall that the Department of Homeland Security
allocated $19 million in 2006 for new Transportation Security
Administration offices (boasting seven kitchens and ten refrigerators
for 79 employees, a $180,000 fitness center, a quarter million for
artwork, and over $30k for silk flowers).

PLEASE contact your congressmen and senators and urge their support of
this essential and very appropriate funding for our EMS infrastructure.
