Agreed, but a normal creatinine is a good screening/indicator tool for most of our younger "healthy" trauma patients.

creatinine is not an adequate assessment of renal function prior to  
iodinated contrast media. we now use estimated GFR by MDRD methodology. contrast  is 
safe if eGFR is >60
