We use double contrast (PO/IV) for all CT scans done for hemodynamically stable patients with BAT. My issue is that the radiologist makes us wait a couple of hours to get PO contrast enhancement. Of course, unstable patients or multisystem trauma patients get sent by helicopter to the local trauma center (28 minutes by air). My issue is that I regularly see people with isolated injuries such as a "ground level fall against the tub" scenario, LUQ/pleuritic pain, & the current protocol at this hospital is to wait 2 hours for PO contrast & I feel patients should be imaged more expeditiously. I am simply trying to get the current consensus so that I can approach our radiologist/administration to change the current policy.

I appreciate everyone's input on this matter. EAST currently does not have definitive statement on PO contrast for CT/BAT & ACEP merely states that PO contrast is "not necessary", but I'm looking for stronger language.

Thanks to all.
