Hardcastle, Tim, Dr <tch at sun.ac.za> tch at sun.ac.za

Guys, guys, guys!

There is NO evidence that repeat CT is better that clinical management of spleen or liver injuries. We stopped doing follow-up CT's about three years ago. If they are clinically fine opur rule is a follow:

Grade 1 - 2: 1 month no sport, 3months no contact sport
Grade 3 - 4: 2 month no sport, 6months no contact sport
Grade five : 3 months no sport and 12 months no contact sport (i.e. out for a season!)

So..refuse to write a return to sports letter.

Andrew

I do not think that either patient will end up getting re-scanned. But I
know for a fact that both parents will be calling me back soon to demand an
"OK to resume sporting activity" letter so that Junior can return to his
dangerous gridiron activities. Oh well, at least they wear helmets.....
