I think mainly rumour mill, Pret - nothing closing but everybody much busier than usual. There has certainly been a horrible Influenza A outbreak, with at least a half a dozen paediatric deaths hitting the media. Most ICUs have been busier than usual in winter (we are coming to the end of winter now) with both influenza pneumonia and secondary bacterial pneumonia. My hospital just reported four cases of secondary staph pneumonia after influenza - one of these died in my care. We have also had a lot more nasty pneumococcal pneumonia than usual. If colleagues there have observations, I for one would be interested. Is it true that facilities are closing to admissions, or is there a rumor mill in operation?
