About 5 years ago concealed gun laws were enacted in most southern states and crime and gun related mortality has gone down!

Julian

I think the biggest difference between Australia and the US is that
concealed carry has never been an option here (at least not in my 40 years
on the planet) We dont have that level of ready access to guns, in
particular handguns, that has apparently been the case in the US. Nor do we
have a constitutional "right to bear arms" so government can and does
legislate to control guns in our community.

Crime rate explosion of 300% sounds a little excessive and smacks of
somebody running a media campaign, I am sure I would have noticed if things
had suddenly gotten that dangerous here. Aussies have never had a culture of
arming ourselves to go to the local store, I doubt very much that gun
control is the root of the crime spree if your stats are correct. As things
stand with our storage lgislation, by the time I got my shot gun out of the
safe, collected the ammunition from its separately locked and keyed
cupboard, loaded up and confronted the criminal it would be all over.

Our young people do adopt alot of americansism, maybe the cultural divide is
closing, but I hope it never gets to the point where my kids have to arm
themselves to go to the mall and be safe. I am a gun owner and I love the
shooting sports, but would worry if concealed carry ever becomes a
neccessity in this country.

Cheers

Greg

Tony Joseph,

10 years have gone by... I've heard that overall crime
rate has exploded up to 300% since the tighter gun
control. Now good people don't have guns, only the
criminals!

Is this correct?
