The CO-Directors of the Medical Branch of the Joint Unified Command were two physicians. The Director of the County Health Department - an excellent public health officer AND the Chief of Surgery of the Ben Taub General Hospital - an acute care trauma surgeon. Both were selected to these leadership positions by the County and City Governmental officials because of both of their past integrated success with previous chemical, explosion, and flooding disasters in Houston. Both the Acute Care Trauma SURGEON and the Public Health Doctor working together appointed several sub directors of various functions, including triage stations, the clinic, emergency center evaluation, information technology, public health, pediatrics, mental health, geriatrics, renal failure, pharmacy, ophthalmology (Eye glasses etc). and other sub areas.
