We assist at about 1,500 of emergency surgery cases per month in hour ED at Hospital das Clinicas (Sao Paulo Univ). Every 12 hours we have one resident of third or fourth grade, three 2nd grade, one 1st grade and three internist (last year of school of medicine); everybody is assisted by two surgeons. Anesthesiologist was required at emergency room in very rare situtation. I supose zero occasions in 21 years (period that I am inside the system).
What would happen with the ED system in whole world if we have to call anesthesiologist to take care airway, thoracic surgeon to take care pneumothorax, cardiovascular surgery to take care of aorta injuries, neurosurgeons to decided about head CT scans and finally othopedist to take care about extremity contusion?
