And that is the point. Level I's and Level II's have this type of trauma surgical coverage, but in level III's it is an entirely different story. They are mostly covered (there are exceptions) by private practice general surgeons that have more on their plate than trauma call. In my facility, the trauma medical director is the most likely to tell the ED doc, "call me back when the CT's are done" or "admit to ICU I'll come by later after finishing this (elective surgery) that I am performing in 10 minutes.
