Giles, If you are already EMT, you have a great base of knowledge for PHTLS. The course is designed as an add on to the knowledge already gained as an EMT or Medic. The majority of knowledge gained in the course is related to understanding Mechanism Of Injury, and the physiologic response. For example, not just that you use compression for an unstable pelvis, but WHY you use compression. Another big aspect of PHTLS is spinal precautions, and spinal clearance. If you pay close attention in the class, you should have no problems at all, it is well organized, and very inclusive. As a military medic, I have taken and instructed PHTLS, and have found much of the knowledge gained in that class very helpful in many situations. Let me know how it goes. -HM3 Shaw ----- Original Message ----- From: "Giles Ridyard" To: trauma-list at trauma.org Subject: Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2006 18:35:52 +0000 Hi I am due to take the PHTLS course next month.
