NIGHTHAWKS (was: Xrays reading by non-radiologist)

We do not use Nighthawk. We use a firm based in Minneapolis, MN. Good service. Generally prompt. We do require an over read by our staff rads the next day. Any missed injuries are reviewed in QI. We also have a phone number to call if there are questions on a read. Though the service is good, it still doesn't beat having a rad in house and looking at the films and patient with you.

It would be interesting to read this listserve members' experiences
with the Nighthawks teleradiology service. I do know that they are
not exclusively based in Australia - they also have location in
Zurich.
We used them when I was in Oakland, CA and we use them here in Santa
Fe. And I have not been disappointed with their reads. They are
generally pretty much on the mark, if one uses the re-read by our
attending radiologists (required by hospital policy for all Nighthawk
interpretations) the next morning as the basis for comparison. If I
have any serious questions about a study, I can call them and speak
directly to the person reading the scan (have done that twice). They
are quite expensive, however. Here's their weblink:
