I have probably been into the mediastinum following trauma and
perforations
as many times as anyone on this list. I have been there for
mediastinitis
after a MISSED INJURY because the gastrographin swallow was reported
as being
negative, including in children. Should there be an esophagogram
with
barium, showing perforation, I am in the mediastinum within the hour.
 Any
inflammation was due to the time lag between the perforation and the
study, not
from the barium.

Please, please, stop this NONSENSE and potentially iatrogenically
LETHAL
practice of using gastrographin as a contrast material when an
esophageal injury
is suspected.
