hey folks, quick question: are you using IV heparin in the treatment of fat embolism? i have a patient with right femur and tib-fib fracture presenting with dyspnea and somnolence, no petequial rash, 1 day after the accident. normal head ct. chest ct shows a small lung contusion. IV heparin was prescribed. a review in a recent Critical Care Medicine article states there´s no proven benefit. i´m worried about heparin in the freshly traumatized patient... thanx for your answers felix Emergency Medicine HPS - POA - Brazil
