I've written 3 or 4 papers on the role of alcohol in motorcycle crashes, and I can tell you that the absence of BAL testing has significantly hampered the research into the area. Often testing is biased because it's done only if alcohol use is suspected. I can't imagine that own small pond is the only public health area that would benefit by having lots of BAL data, particularly since so much data is gathered retrospectively. That's a benefit I see to routine screening. On the other hand, I appreciate the validity of the arguments about using the information for non-criminal punishment such as denying insurance payments, etc. My two cents worth . . . __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
