Alcohol Screening

This is a good mandate as it will truly help the patients--data clearly shows reduced risk of recidivism with simple intervention, which of course requires identification of the at risk patient first--and BAL clearly does that.  Large database supporting this.  the interventions available are very simple and the ACS is preparing to help trauma centers develop them with various models

According to Surgery News (Aug 06), the ACS is preparing to require
Level I trauma centers to perform alcohol abuse screening and
intervention for trauma patients.  Do you screen and intervene?  If so,
how?  If not, why not - and what are your thoughts on the new ACS
standard?
