New hospital planning

Anthony Caruso Medic541 at hotmail.com
Tue Aug 15 23:52:30 BST 2006

Greetings:
I am currently working as a paramedic with a small community hospital in
town. Actually I mostly agree with Michael. However, one part I disagree
is having an "ems" room totally separate from the ER area. If there were an
open table/counter area made exclusively for EMT's where we could do our
charting, I feel as we would have more interaction with the ER staff. We all
know no matter how well the report given there will always be a question
that a physician may have or a nurse didn't hear it. So this way the EMT
could stay within a line of sight to the ER staff.
Another problem that has come into focus is an area for mass decon.
Many Emergency rooms just don't have the space or the funds to make an area
specifically designed to treat contaminated patients from a Haz-Mat
exposure. A room with a shower stall similar to a Locker room stall would
be appropriate.
If you have any questions at all please feel free to write back and
we can discuss this further.
Sincerely,
Anthony M. Caruso

Greetings:
As a former EMT, and soon to be again. I would like to give you my thoughts.
The EMS staff should have there own area, depending or you needs. A place to
write reports, conference, and stand down. A room not within the actual ER
is best. Also a place to store, and clean equipment from calls, IE back
boards etc.
Thank you
