Hi.. Ketorolac serves some interesting functions as an NSAID. It can be administered as an IV injection, as opposed to all other NSAID's which have to be administered as an IM injection. Can be used for moderate to severe pain and provide pain releif as good as opiods.. The other drug which could be given IV was Pralicoxib, but at many places, it fallen into controversies.. the COX II inhibtor saga.. C/I in patients with renal failure, suspected coagulopathy, CAution in patients with acid peptic disease, orthopedic surgeries, hepatic disease.. Acceptable pain relief in the post operative period, where the duration of use is for a smaller duration. Recommended for use upto 5 days in case of combination of route of administration. Think of other options while prescribing for chronic pain conditions and also for breakthrough pain while on ketorolac (like opioids, if not C/I).. DOse. 30 mg IV single dose may suffice for mild to moderate pain,, Can go upto 120 mg/day IV route. Oral route max upto 40 mg/day. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/ketor_wcp.htm#W My two cents..
