The only data I know to support the use of prophylactic antibiotics in pelvic bone injury is in cases with fracture secondary to GSW where the bullet has gone through the colon and then the pelvis, creating an open pelvic fracture, with colon organisms dragged into the wound. One can extrapolate to the pelvis if it is an OPEN pelvic fracture. Literature does exist about the value of antibiotics in open fractures in preventing chronic osteo. k
