Indeed, our thoughts are will our colleagues and the victims in Jordan. Run -- don't walk -- to your local library or bookseller (okay, Ken can walk), and pick up "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris (available in paperback from WW Norton, 2005). It is easily the most thought-provoking non-fiction I've read in decades, and it's terrifyingly applicable to our lives and times. You will see the motivation aspect much more clearly, I assure you.
