I think the only people who feel that FAST doesn't have a role in the asessment of abdominal trauma are those that don't know how to perform the study!!

FAST is done to assist decision making regarding 
    1. fluid in the abdomen
    2. hemopericardium
    3.  Pneumothorax has been diagnosed with ultrasound  (not FAST) by 
astronauts. 
 
Once fluid is found in the abdomen or in the pericardium, then a decision  
must be made as to what to do with it,     For the  prehospital arena  I see no 
utility in establishing a suspicion of  fluid in one of these cavities.  
 
There is an increasing number of people who believe that except for  
hemopericardium, FAST has very little value in abdominal  trauma.
