Tim: The teachings of PHTLS are that the paramedics and EMTs minimize scene times, while providing care for immedaite life threats. In other words, it does little good for anyone to grab and run a patient that has an airway compromise if you never bother to try to resolve the airway issue (manual opening, intubation, etc.) Likewise, rapid transport of a patient with external bleeding is silly if you don't stop the bleeding (direct pressure, elevation, etc.) So, it's not so much "scoop and run" or "stay and play." It's more of a "Assess, treat, and do it all while being very attentive to how long you've been on the scene." Make sense? Best, Jeff Brosius Paramedic, etc. Phoenix
