Neither. Start a small scalp vein needle in back of hand. Both are contraindicated in pre. Hospital setting. Any use must prompt a QA review for mis use and over use.

Subject: A question for the group

Hello all.

I was wondering what the group thought about prehospital (air medical or
ground) central line placement vs IO and the decision to do one or the other
Under the assumption you have a patient who is concious yet needs
medication acutely with long transport times.

here are some pointed questions:

1) Would you opt to place an IO before a central line pre hospital in a
concious patient

2) Do you advocate IO's only for adult patients who are in arrest ?

thanks for your consideration
