In a message dated 1/15/2005 5:03:03 PM Central Standard Time, sumieb at compuserve.com writes: A doctor still decides how he/she will practice medicine. But government, businesses and insurance companies will decide how the doctor is reimbursed. For many then, this can indirectly decide how the doctor practices medicine. Or some doctors around the world still practice for fee for service. Some payment in some locations is still paid in barter,or even in kind payments, such as chickens, eggs, and food. When governments, businesses, and insurance companies decide just who takes care of what patient and how that medicine will be practiced, then we will be very close to the unsavory social experiments in health care delivery during the 3rd Reich. That time happilly is past. I fear that some on these lists would like to see a return of government or even corporate America (or pick a country) determine just who gets care and what care is given to which person in a two tier or vern 4 tier system. k
