In a message dated 28-Aug-05 19:45:25 Central Daylight Time, KMATTOX at aol.com writes: >From the Neo Orleans Office of Emergency Preparedness at this hour Over a million people have evacuated from the City of New Orleans and Jefferson Parish during the last 36 hours. This is one of the largest single evacualtions of a population over a short period of time in the history of man kind. Some looting has been known to occur in some of the homes of thise who left. Up to 60,000 have and are entering the Superdome as a "shelter of last resort." There is no longer any shelters anywhere in Jefferson Parish. k Our regional plans are going into effect, and we have been notified to be prepared to accept transfer patients from down state. My understanding is that most of the evacuated hospital and nursing home patients went to Baton Rouge, filling most of the beds available there. The ones we have been warned will be ones who need beds that are not otherwise available. Several of the churches are setting up as shelters, but I've not been notified what the Red Cross is going to be doing here in Leesville. ck Charles S. Krin, DO
