Resident protected time and trauma activations

Recently, consideration has been given to a "protected time" for the
education of the surgical residents at our program where they all have
didactic teaching at the same time and would not have to respond to trauma
activations.  Is anyone else doing this?  Is this a requirment for
residency accreditation?
