OK, I'm just a student but I've been trying to follow this debate over the use of steroids in SCI. I know that many here say there's no proven benefit. I also know that I aked one of our surgeons about it and he agreed but said that as long as it was "the standard" he'd prescribe them for fear of being sued. That seems wrong to me. What I don't understand is, if there's no proven benefit, how did this become the "standard" to begin with?
