I am hoping to get some information from either active-duty or former military medical personnel for a report I am putting together . I would like to know how wounded personnel in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are transported, triaged, and treated in these horribly dangerous environments. Some things I would like to know include: Is there a typical wound these days? I have read that body armor is getting rid of a lot of chest/abdomen wounds... What is a typical transport time from wound to field hospital? Do all wounded from a particular area/operation go through the same medical facility? What is the typical patient flow? ie frontline, forward field hospital, permanent hospital, recovery/return to duty? And what kind of time line does that follow? How close to the fighting is the first stop, typically? How do most wounded personnel get to that first stop? Do they get carried, does a helicopter have to come pick them up where they fall? Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially from active or recently serving folks who have dealt with the new body armor. Anecdotes and/or actual data would help tremendously. Feel free to email me privately to avoid clogging the list. Thank you in advance, Michael Lyons mblyons at sandia.gov Sandia National Labs
