-ATLS COURSE

Last course

What struck me is the rigidity of the program
Strict orders not to discuss Permessive hypotension
Still pushing high dose steroids for spinal cord injury
No Combitube/LMA

What also struck me compared to PHTLS/BTLS
Is the lecturers, for the most parts
Were good docs
But not very good lecturers (following the slides)
(PHTLS/BTLS instructor are usualy selected for their teaching skills
more than their academic knowledge!?)))

The level of the docs taking the ATLS was pretty good this time
around

Again got lucky
And participated in the clinicals
... used to be that some docs would object to animal labs
And that would leave some openings

But otherwise
Like any clinical
Your attitude, knowledge and enthousiasme go a long way
In guaranteeing maximum learning

Again

PHTLS/BTLS should be mandated
But their is room and much apreciation for an occasional ATLS audit

Thanks to be directed to the open mindedness of the course givers
