Dr. Gross, I would be interested in seeing your protocol...the hospital
in which i work has an active detox unit but they no longer use iv
alcohol...i have only been a nurse for seven years, but thought that
this was a protocol from the past...please email me off-list...thank
you!

We have been conducting (after many issues with some from medicine who
sit on the IRB) a comparative study with ativan and IV alcohol
administered as a drip, monitoring results with the CIWA score. This
came about after we (the trauma service) had seen virtually NO DT's in
our patients treated with IV alcohol. Simply put - it works. Feel free
to contact me off-line for the protocol.
Happy Holidays to all.

Is anyone still giving beer or wine to alcoholic patients to prevent
DTs or
even IV ethanol?

Thanks
