Again, I respectfully disagree. While not all paramedics or nurses are able to use critical thinking skills, I think the majority of them are able to recognize conditions and carry out treatments. Granted, the scope of practice and responsibilities are different but they must be prepared to handle many of the issues you stated above. I do think that a medical background is a major asset for PA students. My friend who has been a respiratory therapist for nearly 20 years that is getting ready to graduate from PA school is noticing that her clinical experiences and even a fair bit of the didactic learning were easier (and I hesitate to use that word, because it was not easy at all!) to pick up and retain because she remembers patients with those ailments. And any benefit that may exist after graduation for NP's and PA's is gone within a few months.
