Trauma.Org Imagebank - Requests

Hello. Many of you will be familiar with our Imagebank - which is a product
of many image donations from people on this list and other visitors to the
web site. It's been a great success and now has several hundred good
quality educational images - and is one of the most popular sections of the
web site. It's rare to go to a trauma meeting and not see several
presentations with images taken from the site (exactly what they're supposed
to be used for) - and we have on occasion allowed reproduction of a few
images in educational publications (the new ATLS manual for example).

Now I have 2 requests:

Firstly, as a victim of its success I have lots of submitted images on my
hard disk that I just do not have the time to look through, select, size,
classify, describe and add to the imagebank. Hence the search for a
volunteer(s) to take on the imagebank as an on-going project and add new
pages/updates more frequently than I am able to.

You will need to:
1. Understand what you are looking at.
2. Have an average understanding of Photoshop or another image processing
software.
3. Ideally be moderately competent in Dreamweaver (preferably) or other HTML
authoring software.
4. Be able to filter out gore, identifiable or un-educational images.

If you're interested please get back to me directly.

Secondly for the list:
The images in the Imagebank are submitted without copyright from healthcare
providers around the world. Provided they are educational, not identifiable
and not excessively gory we post them. About once a month we get requests
for them to be included in publications/CD ROMS/books etc etc.
In general I refuse all requests from publishing companies who are only
trying to turn a profit and are not willing to do the work for themselves.
But I do allow use for non-profit organisations trying to disseminate trauma
education. For example I recently received a request for images to be used
in a CD to be distributed free to Rural doctors in Canada.

What do you think of this policy? Should it be altered. Should no
permissions be granted? Should for-profit companies be allowed to use the
images in return for a 'donation'??

I find it difficult to make a unilateral decision given that so many images
have been donated by so many people around the world. However I cannot
contact each one and have different policies for different images. So the
list membership shall decide...

Many thanks

Karim
