Dear Nanto, just more on what Ian says, it is true that in Victoria doctors rarely leave the sanitised ED,s but in the other mainland states doctors are trained and expected to turn up at major incidents and at entrapped patients and get winched down( with paramedics ) to isolated patients. For instance a train crashed just south of Sydney on Friday, 41 injured and 8 dead, and within 90 minutes there were 9 specialist doctors as well as upteen ambulance officers at the scene and we all worked together well, all the critical patients were treated by a doctor/paramedic TEAM which combines the best of both worlds, We are paid part time to do both reteival and prehospital work, not just "pulled out of an ED" and when we on for retrieval we hang around the base waiting for jobs and doing admin etc ( like reading Trauma.org !!) we are not after your jobs, we just want to improve patient care This exact setup is replicated in Queensland and a similar one operates in SA.
