Why do we uniformly lay victims and patients on their backs

I think in most trauma pts, they generally all have some sort of
mechanism requiring spinal immobilisation (at least for the short term),
which is why they would be placed supine. It is also easier to perform
assessment of the pt if they are in this position initially.
