trauma-list digest, Vol 1 #1259 - 9 msgs

Ramstrom, Edward trauma-list@trauma.org
Wed, 6 Feb 2002 08:03:37 -0500

Drive slower !? That would take all the fun out of this job! Ha ha, only
kidding. We have in fact had ambulances with the air ride suspensions, and
while for the first 20, to 30,000 miles work quite well, in time actually
ride worse than spring type suspensions and end up being converted to
traditional suspensions. Our roads in our city are extemely rough and with
time do an awful job and our trucks. Actually I think that was a question I
had in my mind, would the foam style boards be "stable" enough to be
considered as a spinal immobilization device?

Mr. Ramston, has your department ever considered air ride suspension? or
perhaps driving a little slower? Foam cell padding is comfortable and ridged

enough to maintain the support you need. Check the foam pads out, pretty
cool
stuff and your patient will be happier and you will be within your protocol
along with CingYA.
best regards
