Dear Clive, =20 Hyperventilation causes a reduction in cerebral perfusion. It is, there= fore, effective in reducing intacranial pressure (that is the reason wh= y it has been recommended). However, the reduction in cerebral perfusio= n may be detrimental for underperfused brain areas; newer studies showe= d that immediately after brain trauma cerebral perfusion may be already= low - thus, it is now state of the art to normoventilate TBI patients.= =20 Detailed discussion of this can be found in the "Guidelines for the man= agement of severe head injuries" available at the Brain trauma Foundati= on http://www.braintrauma.org/ <http://www.braintrauma.org/>=20 =20 Best wishes =20 Walter -----Urspr=FCngliche Nachricht----- Von: Clive Leach [mailto:clivedleach@hotmail.com] Gesendet am: Montag, 7.
