About
the Society

The
British Trauma Society was founded
in 1989 by a group of orthopaedic surgeons who recognised the
need to consider trauma care as a multidisciplinary concern. Since
then the society has flourished. The yearly meetings have been
well attended with a relaxes atmosphere and an enthusiastic but
discerning audience. Social activities, be they discussing issues
with others who share the same clinical interests, or re-making
acquaintances at the annual dinner, are catered for too. The Society
brings together committed clinicians with an unashamed interest
in trauma care and at the same time offers the opportunity for
consultants and trainees to present papers on a wide range of
relevant topics.
The Society continues to support the interests of orthopaedic traumatologists,
as is borne out by the number and quality of papers on related topics
presented at the annual meeting and the number of orthopaedic surgeons
who are active members. It also embraces the interests of other,
equally important, specialties, such as emergency medicine, anaesthesia
and intensive care, general surgery, radiology and faciomaxillary
surgery. In accordance with its commitment to multidisciplinary
care, the Society plans to attract other specialists, particularly
neurosurgeons who play such an important part in the spectrum of
trauma seen in the UK.
