Trauma
Web Sites
Trauma web
sites can be categorised broadly into three groups. The supersites,
that act as a focus and starting point for trauma activity on the
internet, sites by professional organisations, and sites from academic
trauma units. You could start your browsing from any of the supersites,
but if we had to pick one site, it'd be TRAUMA.ORG, because we're
biased. Injury prevention servers are similarly structured, and
as a starting point we'd recommend the Injury Prevention Network
as the most comprehensive collection of injury control information
available on the net.
Below are descriptions of the sites we
feel will be the most useful for you to bookmark and return to regularly.
For a full list of trauma sites, go to the web
links page.
| TRAUMA.ORG |
TRAUMA.ORG was one of the first trauma
web sites on the internet and is currently the largest, most
comprehensive and most accessed. TRAUMA.ORG is a not-for profit
internet based 'entity'. It is not based at any one hospital,
though it has ties with several, and its servers are based in
London, England, though they could be anywhere.
As well as providing trauma-related
information and educational materials, TRAUMA.ORG's main goal
is to foster and develop an online global trauma community.
The keystone of this effort is the Trauma-List
mailing list, which is a multidisciplinary email-based discussion
group currently running at over 600 members from 40 countries
worldwide.
Also on the pages are listings of
internet and terrestrial trauma resources, conference and
course details, trauma moulage practice scenarios, a trauma
search facility and a trauma information, radiology and image
repository, the TraumaBank.
TRAUMA.ORG also houses the online version of the European
Trauma Care Course.

| Liverpool
Trauma |
The Liverpool
Hospital Trauma Pages, based at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney,
Australia, is another large site with a lot of educational content,
with trauma multiple choice questions and 'sudden death' scenarios.
There is also a good X-ray collection on offer. |

| AAST |
The American
Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) has a newly revamped
site which has had a lot of thought and care put into it. Still
unfinished, it houses the AAST prevention page, and holds regular
case presentations and discussions. The AAST has a major commitment
to trauma on the internet, and many of the leading lights of
the AAST have a significant web presence. |

|
| EAST |
The Eastern Association for the Surgery
of Trauma (EAST) has also recently reorganised its web pages,
which have some good educational content as well as providing
a list of trauma and critical care fellowships in the United
States. Especially well done are the guidelines for trauma management.

| Injury
Control |
Undoubtedly the most comprehensive injury
prevention site on the internet, this large site links to most
of the injury prevention related information on the internet.
Formerly the Injury Control Resource and Information Network
(ICRIN), if you want one place to start a search this is it.
