Trauma Mailing Lists

Mailing Lists are discussion groups devoted to particular topics. They are email based, and managed by computer programs, not human beings (though they all need a bit of looking after!).

You subscribe to a list by sending a message to the computer that runs the list (usually called 'majordomo' or 'listserv'. The discussion then proceeds as someone sends a message to the list address. The message is then distributed to all subscribers to the list. Someone has a reply, and posts it to the computer, who distributes it to everybody again. It's like having a permanent seminar or round-table group, with everyone connected by email rather than sitting in the same room together.

Trauma-List The Trauma-List mailing list is maintained at TRAUMA.ORG and is a multidisciplinary list covering all aspects of trauma care and injury prevention. It's membership to date is around 620 members, and over 2,500 messages have been posted since the beginning of 1996. Selected discussions are archived on this web site.

To subscribe to the mailing list visit the trauma-list main page.

TRAUMA-L TRAUMA-L is run by Dr. Ernest Block MD. and is also a sizable, active trauma mailing list. It's emphasis is on general surgical trauma and critical care, and membership is currently around 530 members, with over 1900 messages being posted since the beginning of 1996.

TRAUMA-L has since moved under the care of the AAST. To subscribe to the TRAUMA-L list, send a message to
trauma-l-request@www.aast.org with the message:

as the subject of the message, and the body empty.

Injury-L Injury-L is the main injury prevention mailing list on the internet at the present time. It is a lower volume mailing list, but also has conference and job announcements as well as discussions of injury control issues. Injury-L messages are also automatically archived.

Orthopod Orthopod has recently taken over the membership of the now defunct OML llist and is now the focus for orthopedic discussion on the internet.
